My Phone is Back!
I got my phone earlier this week, which is great, because I can write posts on the go, again! Unfortunately, I've been sick all week and have been able to make very little progress on anything wargaming-related. I'll post again when some wargaming-related fun happens!

Phone Down...
Hey, sorry for not posting recently! On the bright side, my sports season is over, on the not-so-bright side, my phone is in for water damage so I won't be able to post any pictures of my most recent tabletop wargame with my friends. We made it about 1/3 of the way through a Flipit: Paper Combat game with modified rules, but, until we had to quit, it was an amazingly fierce game!
In other, but gaming-related news, the friends who I taught to play Magic a month or so ago, have become incredibly good at it. We've managed to get one or two 2-vs-2 team games in, which have been awesome! The Pokemon TCG has also been a big part of my gaming life, lately.
Finally, I've been working hard on my 3D design skills and I'd like to start designing some miniatures on Shapeways. I'll probably post another blog update once I get my phone back. Goodbye for now!

eBay Package!
Hello! Today my 61-card lot of Weiss Schwarz Angel Beats! cards came! I'll probably go over it more in-depth on the YouTube channel, but here are a few pics, including one of the deck I hastily built.

Inactivity...
Sorry I haven't been posting much. The reason for my inactivity is part real life, part other hobbies. However, I have been getting a card game or two in almost every day, so I haven't ever been too far away from my gaming life! Anyway, I just wanted to let you guys know that I'm still thinking about the blog and that I do still care. As always, thank for reading!

Tau...
Well, I got two games against a super-competitive Tau list in this weekend. Let's just say my Chaos Space Marine Nurgle list got absolutely destroyed both times. Although I wasn't happy about the losses, I felt like I learned a lot about both of our armies (this was my first time playing an 1850 CSM list).
Anyway, I think it was a good experience, even though I was tabled both times! Thanks for reading my little weekend report!

Weekend Package!
Yay! Earlier this weekend, a package arrived for me! What was inside you ask? Well, I'll tell you! As a result of a trade I got 3 mostly assembled Tyranid Warriors, 10 Tyranid Hormaguants and 4 Tyranid Termagants! I'll try to get them all out and take a picture for you all, soon.
(Looks like my list of "unit-to-paint" just got longer!)

Thoughts After One Week...
Well, since it's been a week since I picked up the MTG sample decks, I figured I'd do a quick review of the set of them.
Honestly, they're great, especially if you pick up several copies of each deck. That way, you can have some of the better cards as duplicates and remove some of the not-so-good cards. So, the decks are actually a great way to get into the game, unlike other card games' starter decks. Although they're not the most competitive cards, they are still very fun to play with and they're free! What more can you ask for?!
Anyway, you should definitely pick up the MTG M15 sample decks! (Especially anyone who is new to Magic: The Gathering, like me!)

M15 Sample Decks
I've finally done it. I've decided that I'm going to play a little bit of Magic: The Gathering. So, to help me get started, I went to a gaming store last night and picked up two of each M15 Sample Deck. I had never been to that store, so I got to do a little bit of recon for the future. Anyway, I'm going to be unboxing some of these of my YouTube channel, Creative Wargaming (Blog) so make sure you head over there to check them out!

Pokemon Week Day 7: The Endgame
Oohoo! The Endgame! The most important and most difficult part of the Pokemon TCG! So, for the last day of Pokemon Week, let's talk about what your opponent is most likely to do in the Endgame!
1. Play their heavy hitters! Of course your opponent is going to throw their most powerful stage 2 Pokemon in a desperate fight to win. Be prepared to take a lot of damage! However, if you are prepared, you can dish out a lot of damage as well.
2. Heal damage. People are willing to discard cards and even energies to heal damage.
3. Finally, retreat. If it means their Pokemon is left with only 10 HP, but it survives and doesn't give up a prize card, it will help your opponent.

Pokemon Week Day 6: Playing on Your Opponent's Turn
Sorry I didn't post yesterday, my internet conked out. Anyway, I'm just going to post Day 6 and Day 7 today.
Have you ever heard the saying "The best defense is a good offense"? Well, really, that is the only way you can play in Pokemon, because you can't play cards on your opponent's turn. How? That's what I'm going to talk about!
So, the best ways to play defensively are to play cards that cause your opponent to discard cards, shuffle cards into their deck or generally mess with their strategy. This way, you can force them to think on their feet even more than they already are! Another great plan is to use some special attacks to damage some of their stronger Pokemon while they are sitting on the Bench. By doing this, you can weaken and even defeat some of your opponent's best Pokemon before they get to the field. So, by ruining your opponent's strategy even the slightest bit, you can cause utter chaos in their master plan.
Make sure you find the kingpins in your opponent's deck quickly so that you can defeat them and win with ease!

Pokemon Week Day 5: Old Vs New
It is getting late here, so I'm going to try to keep this post brief. So, the question is "Are older Pokemon cards better than newer ones?" The straight answer to this question is NO. However, lets dive a bit deeper!
It seems that as new sets of Pokemon cards get released, the energy cost for more powerful attach is going down. For example, a near-base-set Haunter card requires two energies to deal 50 damage, but can can only deal damage while the defending Pokemon is Asleep, whereas a much newer Diamond and Pearl set Ledian can deal 50 damage for 2 energies AND has the choice of retreating after the attack. Better? Oh yeah! But don't worry if you have cards from several sets ago, the change in energy cost is very gradual, for the most part.
So, even though old Pokemon cards are fun to collect, most of them are not the best for battling. If you disagree, though, leave a comment and lets start a friendly discussion! Thanks for reading!

Pokemon Week Day 4: Hybrid Deck Pros and Cons
Okay, so, if you looked into any given player's deck, chances are pretty good that you will find more than one type of energy card. Mainly, this is because it gives players access to many more Pokemon. This makes it very popular with players new and experienced. But, let's not be too quick to love this type of deck. Let's go over the pros and cons of hybrid decks!
Pros: Hybrid decks give you access to more Pokemon and more "situational" cards, like Stadiums and very specific Supporter cards. You also get access to some of the cooler Special Energy Cards, like the Dark Metal Energy for steel and dark hybrid decks. You also will have a slightly broader range of types, so you can cover your weaknesses much better! Additionally, almost all Pokemon Theme Decks are hybrid decks, so they are easier to acquire.
Cons: Hybrid decks use more than one type (or color, if you will) of energy, which sometimes makes it difficult to use specific attacks. (Single color decks don't have this trouble.) Hybrid decks also have more trouble pulling off unique combos because of their multiple types, whereas single-color decks can combo a bit easier. Finally, it is much harder to focus on a few important cards when building a deck, but in a single-color deck it is relatively easy.
Well, I hope you enjoyed my analysis of hybrid decks and I hope this helps you decide which deck to play!

Pokemon Week Day 3: Starting Hands
What is a good starting hand in Pokemon? Well, this question has many slightly different answers, but we are going to just going to focus on a generally good starting hand. So, here we go!
In the Pokemon TCG, you are allowed to draw 7 cards to start with, AND you must have at least 1 basic Pokemon or you must mulligan. This is slightly more problematic than other card games, because you can't choose to mulligan and you can't choose which cards you get rid of (you have to shuffle your whole hand back into your deck). However, because you also draw 1 card at the start of your turn we are going to say that your starting hand is 8 cards. Confused yet? Don't worry, it gets easier to understand from now on!
In the optimal starting hand, you would have 3 or 4 Pokemon, usually 2 basics and a stage 1 that evolves from one of those basic Pokemon. This gives you a nice boost of power on the second or third turn, so you can start the game hitting hard!
Next is the energies. Assuming you started with 3 Pokemon in your hand, you would want at least 2, but probably 3 energies in your starting hand. This way, you can power up your Pokemon for those first, usually slow, turns.
Finally we have the Trainer cards. Normally, it is bad if you have to play these on the first or second turn, but it is always good to have cards that allow you to manipulate your hand and field as you wish.
So, there you go! Now you know how to recognize a balanced starting hand! Try and use this knowledge to start your games strong!

Pokemon Week Day 2: Deckbuilding 101
This is only going to be a hard and fast guide to deckbuilding in the Pokemon TCG, but here we go!(Remember, you can only have 60 cards in your deck, no more no less and you can't have more than 4 of any card)
First, Pokemon! You need Pokemon to fight for you, so put plenty of basic Pokemon into your deck. I suggest 8-12 basics, 4-8 stage 1 evolutions and 1-4 stage 2 evolutions. However, these numbers may vary slightly depending on what kind of deck you are playing.
Next is energy cards, the cards that your Pokemon require to attack. Unwritten Rule: You must have at least 18 energy cards in your deck or this battle will be very difficult! I believe my deck runs a few more than 18 energies, like 20 or 22.
Finally, the Trainer Cards! These move your strategy along much faster than you could on your own. Most people run less than 20 Trainers and with good reason, they run your deck out of cards too quickly! So, unless you are going to take lots of healing cards, take 12-18 Trainer cards and just take a few more Pokemon!
Well, I hope this helps you balance out your deck! I may decide to do more detailed explanations later this week, but this is just to help you see what you need make a decently balanced deck. Thanks for reading!

Pokemon Week Day 1: 3-Card Combos
(Disclaimer: I don't know what sets these cards are from. Some are newer, some are much older. You have been warned!)
Most of the time, 3-Card Combos are easy to pull off if you've set up for them properly. One of my favorite 3-Card Combos is a "Gunner Wall Combo". This combo consists of a Pokemon (usually with a high retreat cost) that can soak up plenty of damage and that isn't required for your victory strategy, like my Snorlax. The next part of this combo is the card, Fluffy Berry. This lets the Pokemon that Fluffy Berry is attached to retreat for free! The final step is a Pokemon that can retreat after it attacks, like Ledian. So, Snorlax soaks up damage on my opponent's turn, retreats for free, and then is switched back in after Ledian attacks.
In the early stages of a game, this combo will work like a charm, but I don't reccomend it when your opponent's heavy hitters can one-shot Snorlax, because you will give up a prize card.
If you play a grass type or a grass hybrid deck, I strongly suggest you try out this combo, make modifications to it and tell me! I hope this was a good example of a 3-Card Combo! Make sure you check Creative Wargaming tomorrow for more Pokemon action!

Warhammer 40K Batrep: Throwdown in the City!
Hey, all! I played an absolutely awesome game of 40K yesterday! Let's not delay, here come the pictures! (I left the pictures at full size because I think they're cool enough to be at full size. Sorry, a few of them are kind of blurry!)
Turn 1: I get the first turn and deployment. I chose the more dense side, thinking it would give me some cover against Necron shooting. My Space Wolves move up more cautiously than my Orks, who happily ran up the right side of the board. My opponent also moved the Necron forces slowly, using his Canoptek Spiders to spawn some Scarab bases. We each took some potshots, but these were rather nonconsequencial.
Turn 6: This is where I called the game. There was no way I could win any more and it was growing late in the day, so I conceded victory to my opponent.

Turn 2: The Space Wolves advance together, losing a Terminator to Imohtek's Lightning. The Orks are practically comical in the way that they shuffle up and try to get into charge range. My Deffkoptas continue to fire their Rokkit Launchas at the Necron transport (Doomsday Barge?) and manage to just land a glancing hit. Necron shooting was rather unsuccessful.
Turn 3: (The Orks are moving so slow!) The Vindicator (proxied) and the Dreadnought move up together and both start unleashing all off their firepower on the Immortals. My Skyclaws, who Deep Struck in turn 2, now charge a lonely band of 5 Necrons in the middle of my opponents side. The Necrons make the remaining Ork Boys disappear and a few Space Wolves fell to their fire.
Turn 4: The Space Wolves struggle to hold off the advancing enemy, doing little damage except for with the Vindicator and Long Fangs. On the Necron turn, the rest of the Ork stuff is removed from the table (the Nobs, Warboss and Deffkoptas). The Teminators lose two of their number thanks to the enemy Warlord's one-use weapon. The Rune Priest also suffers a wound from Tomb Blade shooting. My Skyclaws were utterly surrounded by the overwhelming Scarab bases, so we just decided to remove them.
Turn 5: I did almost nothing this turn, except for the usual Vindicator, Long Fangs, Dreadnought and because I was in range, charging the enemy Warlord with my terminators. The Necrons wittle down what is left of my army, even wrecking the Vindicator. In the Necron turn of Assault, my Terminators slay the Necron Warlord, however, I'm still several Victory Points behind.
Turn 6: This is where I called the game. There was no way I could win any more and it was growing late in the day, so I conceded victory to my opponent.
This was a great game playing with the still-new 7ed rules. We weren't totally sure on what to do with the Tactical Objectives, but we made it work! It was a great way to spend an afternoon, so thanks to my opponent and thanks to all of you for reading!

I Hear Them Howling...
The Space Wolves rumors are coming! I have read some of them already, and, unfortunately, I'm not super impressed. However, if the Wolves are getting a new codex, these are a few of the things I'd like to see:
1. A new, wolfy monsterous creature! Wouldn't a close combat behemoth make the already charge-heavy army so much more fun to play? Something kind of like the Chaos Space Marines' Maulerfiend, but a little better.
2. Special Imperial Knight Upgrades. I think that it would be awesome to have a huge Wolf Claw or a similar weapon on an Imperial Knight. In fact, I think all of the Imperial Armies should get army-specific Imperial Knight upgrades.
3. Both of the flyers, the Hunter/Stalker and for some odd reason, I think the Space Wolves should get Ironclad Dreadnoughts.
4. Various point reductions on some of their Independent Characters. I think almost of the Space Wolves' characters are kind of overpriced. Even if their cost was just cut by 25 or 30 points each, they might be more "takable" in smaller games.
5. Improved stats for Fenrisian Wolves. Space Wolves are not a horde army! Make the actual "wolves" part of the Space Wolves better!
Well, now that you've read what I want to see if the Space Wolves Codex comes out soon! Do you agree or disagree? Is there anything that you would change on this list? Let me know!

Haha! Finally! Here is the test result of my CAD-designed miniature! I'm currently keeping any final names for it secret, so you can call it the Delta-b. I decided to print it in two halves to make sure it printed ok.

Underestimated...
Hello, everyone! About a week and a half ago, my friend commissioned me to paint another plane for him. I accepted, thoroughly enjoying these projects. However, I badly underestimated the time the project would take. Now I'm finally on the verge of finishing his miniature! I'll post the "before" and "after" pics soon after I finish!

Bushi Navi International!
Hey, everyone! Last night, the fourth episode of Bushiroad's Bushi Navi International aired live! Since I'm a big fan of Bushiroad's card games, I decided to tune in. It was an awesome show! It's easy to see how much work they put into it and the hosts, Valerie and Kai, are awesome and funny people! Anyway, it was a great show and I'm happy I got to watch some of it! What did you think of last night's episode?

3D Designing
Hello, everyone! I have great news! The 3D printer that I have had access to for some time has come to my house! Although it's not here to stay, I will have full control over it for the summer!
Now, another thing you should know about me is that I enjoy the sometimes-difficult task of designing objects to 3D print. So, I have been working hard on a miniature spaceship to be printed soon! I would show you pictures, but I'd prefer to keep it kind of faceless until the project is complete. Thanks for understanding!

Commissioned Miniature!
Step 1: I covered the part of the plane I wanted to paint in some thin strips of painters' tape, leaving little triangles and other shapes open.
Step 2: I peeled the painters' tape off and did some freehand painting to fill in some empty spaces.
Step 3: I finished painting the fuselage and tail and added the red dot to the side of the plane.
I hope you liked my little tutorial! If you need to know anything else about the techniques I used, let me know in the comments! Thanks for reading!

Back From Vacation II
Well, I'm back from my vacation (that I apologize for not telling you about) in the Black Hills of South Dakota. While the camping up there at 6,000 feet was amazing, I didn't really get any internet. So, imagine my delight when I reached a hotel with wifi and discovered that Orks are, indeed, getting an update! (Please remember that I play Space Wolves AND Orks). I think this is amazing and the Orks 100% deserve it!
Besides that, another great thing has happened! I'm on summer break, now! This means more time for wargaming and painting! Stay tuned for a post about a commissioned miniature I painted before my trip!
P. S. I wasn't completely without any games in the Black Hills, I actually managed to get several games of Cardfight Vanguard in.

Thank You!
Well, I know it's a little late, but since it was just Memorial Day in the United States, I thought I'd say a quick thank-you to all those who have served or are serving in the military. Thank you for keeping us safe!

What is Wargaming?
So, what do you think "wargaming" is? Is it strictly tabletop games with miniatures and rolling dice? Let's find out!
In military terms, "wargames" are combat simulations used to emulate or reenact real battles or situations. Soldiers gain far more from real experience than from a textbook, after all. This means that the tabletop combat idea is not far off from military wargames. However, in most popular collectible card games (Magic the Gathering and Yu-Gi-Oh!) two players are also doing battle! Does this mean that card games are "combat simulations" as well? I believe so. I think that as a "wargamer" you can enjoy tabletop games, card games or both!
That's how I feel about "wargaming"! Now, this doesn't mean I will not make CCG-specific blog, but I did want to show how similar the two kinds of games are. As always, thanks for reading!

7th Edition 40K?
Well, I'll admit I was surprised by the sudden coming of 7th Edition Warhammer 40,000! However, I haven't really decided if it's a bad thing. However, it will be weird to get into a new edition since I'm still shaky on some 6th Edition rules. Anyway, here are some of the things I find fun (from rumors) in the new rules:
Unbound Armies: I like the way GW chose to open up the doors for some peoples' collections! I think it's a neat idea and it should result in some awesome games! (Army of Land Raiders anyone?) Also, I think it's going to be balenced by some bonouses for the armies that still use the chart.
New Psychic Powers: I'm ashamed to admit that I never tried to take Psychic powers from the rulebook, I just took them from my codex. Even so, I just like the idea of new powers and possibly even a Psychic Phase! (I could never figure out when I was supposed to use certain powers!)
A New Allies Chart: Yes! I'm so excited for this! I always liked the idea of playing several armies and now I might have more choices! I hope my Space Puppies get some good allies!
Thanks for reading my thoughts on the upcoming 7th Edition! (Why does the rulebook have to cost $85?! That's close to a 75% increase!)

Back From Vacation
Hi, everyone! I'm back from my work/vacation! So, you must be wondering, "what's been going on lately?"
Well, sadly, Miniature Market has cancelled their sponsorship contract. We hope that they will change their mind in the future, but in the meantime, the banner will be taken down. In other news, the Mobile Frame Zero 002: Alpha Bandit Kickstarter was successfully funded! So, now we have a LEGO, space-based wargame! You can bet I'll be building ships for it soon! So, happy wargaming and have a great day!

I'm Back!
Well, I'm happy to say that I have recovered and I'm ready for my vacation! Luckily, my friend who also plays 40K will be with me! So, I'll be able talk about it and ask questions without sounding too absurd. Sadly, I won't actually be taking my army with me, because it's just too much of a hassle to get into a suitcase and transport it safely.
In other news, it's been warmer outside lately, so I went out and took some pictures of some of my Orks in the grass. I apologize for the sun kind of messing with the photo, but you can still tell what's going on. Tell me what you think!

What a Bummer...
Well, first, sorry for not posting lately, but I really haven't been doing much. This week was supposed to be relaxing and a good time to paint, but instead I've been sick for most of it. This has really had me "in the dumps" and, hence, I haven't done much. So, all I can say is that I hope to recover quickly and to start posting again! Thanks for sticking with me!

Quick Question
Well, now that the Adepticon madness is over, (I didn't actually go, but I heard a lot about it) I wanted to ask my faithful readers a question. Did you go to Adepticon and if you did, what was your favorite event or game? I'd love to see some reader participation, so comment below!

What's Happening?
Good question. What's happening? Well, sadly, not much. I've been doing a bit of painting, getting miniatures ready for future games. Also, I've been playing a lot of fun card games.
Lately, in fact, I've been considering a secondary gaming blog to use as a support for Creative Wargaming. Basically, this blog would contain a bunch of rather miscellaneous posts that would not just be wargaming-related. In this way, I would continue to post on that blog even if I hadn't done any wargaming that week. Now, I don't mean for this blog to overshadow Creative Wargaming, but to have interesting posts on it about other types of games and to keep the readers with me while I prepare the next post for Creative Wargaming. Remember, I'm still considering this, so I have no idea if I'll do it or not, but its a thought! I'll try to keep you updated!
As always thanks for reading and happy wargaming!

App Review #1: Battlescribe
So, today I'll be doing my first wargaming application review! For my on-the-go list building, I use Battlescribe on my iPhone! Battlescribe is great for people who play several different games, because it has so many list builders that can be added to the app for free. For example, if I played both Warmachine and X-Wing, there are downloads for that! Now, no list builder is perfect and I have had some minor problems with Battlescribe, but it's certainly one of the best list builders around! Plus, can you take army builder everywhere you go? Uh-uh!
However, just being portable and versatile doesn't make a great application a great application! What is really neat about Battlescribe is its list printer option! With this, you can print out or email a detailed army list at the touch of a button! This app easily matches and even beats the quality of other army builders!
To wrap up this little review, I strongly suggest you go to the App Store right now and download Battlescribe! Even if you just want to play around with a list, it's incredibly fast and easy to use. As always, happy wargaming!

One Year of Creative Wargaming!
Hey, everybody! I'm in a good mood. Know why? Because today is the one-year mark for Creative Wargaming! It is hard to believe that it was one year ago that I started blogging about something that I was not very familiar with. Now, countless games later, here I am, happy to be a part of the wargaming community.
Now I'd like to talk a little about the way that blogging on Creative Wargaming has changed me. First of all, it has made me much braver. I now have a place to state my opinions and to talk about what I do, not about anything else. I've sent many sponsorship offers and been turned down many times, so I know what it means to fail. However, that never stopped me from enjoying blogging.
I've spent quite a bit of money on wargaming and gaming in general, without regretting it. I'm still very careful about how I spend my money, but I've realized that it's not always bad to get something fun for myself or even to "impulse buy" every once and a while.
Another thing I've discovered is just how big wargaming is. When I started playing Warhammer 40,000, I didn't know a single person who would play with me! But as I got more involved in the community, I found out that some friends that I already knew played 40K! Imagine my excitement!
Okay, now that we've looked back a bit, I'd like to talk about the future of Creative Wargaming. Basically, I'm going to continue wargaming and improving the blog. One thing I'm ashamed of and would like to do more of are Battle Reports. Of course I'd like to play new games! Also, I'm always open to sponsors, so please contact me if you'd like to become an advertising!
Now for probably the most important part of this post, the thank-you. First of all, I'd like to thank you, the readers! Nobody is motivated to post when they have no views! You stuck with me through all of my crazy, mangled, illegible posting and even gave me some likes! You are the real stars of this show, so THANK YOU!
Next, I want to send a warm thank-you to all of my sponsors, past and present. I'm still in shock that you decided to sponsor such an insignificant little blog. I've enjoyed having all of you so much! I hope we can continue to be partners! THANK YOU to Noble Knight Games, Blue Table Painting and Miniature Market!
Finally, wish me luck for another awesome year of Creative Wargaming!

Double-Up!
Two posts in one day? Unheard of! Just kidding, of course, but it is rather unusual for me. Anyway, I just wanted to put out a little teaser for you and tell you that something big is happening for Creative Wargaming tomorrow! Now, it's not so big that the blog will never be the same, but I think it is quite important, so I'll build up some suspense for it. Start guessing! (Check back soon for the unveiling!)
